Stents become an essential part of the human body after
Angioplasty as they prevent the coronary arteries narrowing down again.
They not only aid in blood flow but helps in preventing further
heart attacks if managed well after Angioplasty.
There are several benefits of living with stents:
1) Saves life and decreases damage to heart muscles at the time of
heart attack by replenishing blood flow to heart.
2) Immediately decreases symptoms of cardiovascular diseases and prevents future heart attack.
3) It helps in reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke in the
near future.
4) Stent implant helps in diminishing requirement of a CABG
(Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting).
5) Stenting is less invasive versus CABG and recovery period is
also very brief.
B) Harms/Risks of Stenting:
1) Stents may lead to an allergic reaction.
2) Angioplasty can lead to hemorrhage, blood vessel damage or even
heart damage, or arrhythmia if not properly done.
3) Some complications such as heart attack, stroke or renal
failure can also occur.
4) Scar tissue formation can happen inside stent post stenting procedure
necessitating another procedure for removing it.
5) It also carries a risk of blood clot formation which may medicines
for prevention.
